Adviser, Teacher, Role Model, Friend: A guide by National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine attempts to summarize features that are common to successful mentoring relationships. Its goal is to encourage mentoring habits that are in the best interests of both parties to the relationship. While this guide is meant for mentoring strudents in science and engineering the majority of it is widely applicable to mentoring in any field.

Nature's Guide for Mentors:This Nature article looks at what makes a good mentor. It is written by Adrian Lee, Carina Dennis and Phillip Campbell.

Science Mentoring on the Internet: This article by Alice Deutsch, PhD, was first published in AWIS Magazine, Volume 29, Issue 1 (Winter 2000). Here, you will also find other useful links, tools and updated articles on telementoring.

MentorNet is a non-profit e-mentoring network that addresses the retention and success of staff in engineering, science and mathematics, particularly, but not exclusively, women and other underrepresented groups.  Also offered is MentorNet News, a free monthly electronic newsletter.  According to Carol B Muller, the Founder of MentorNet, "Until women are fully represented in the fields of science and engineering, society is losing out on the talents of a vast number of potential contributors. Academic institutions are losing out. Corporations are losing out. Individuals are losing out. We all lose out."

The Coaching and Mentoring Network has a resource center featuring a nonprofit discussion forum as well as mentoring articles, links, events and case studies.

The Mentoring Group:  Here, you will find articles and good tips on mentoring for both mentors and mentees.   The site also provides organizational indicators to assess whether a mentoring culture is in place.

Guidelines for a Mentoring Scheme:  This City University of London site gives sound guidelines on professional mentoring and an overview of the University's mentoring program.

AWIS Mentoring Project: 'Mentoring means future scientists.'  At this Association of Women in Science (AWIS) site, you will find mentoring-related statistics, information and personal stories from women in science.
