New International Labour Office (ILO) Global Report on Equality at Work 2007- This comprehensive report on discrimination by ILO tackles the challenges and provides a global picture of job-related discrimination, citing both progress and failures in the struggle to fight discrimination ranging from traditional forms such as sex, race or religion, to newer forms based on age, sexual orientation, HIV/AIDS status and disability.

International Labour Office (ILO) Participatory Gender Audit - A Participatory Gender Audit is a tool and process based on participatory approaches which assesses whether internal practices and systems for gender mainstreaming are effective and whether they are being followed. It is used at an individual, team and organisational level to promote learning on how to integrate gender concerns throughout an institution. The International Labour Office (ILO) began this process in October 2001 and since then has expanded its audits to cover field offices, major constituents such as the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) and United Nations agency offices in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Bibliographies on Francophone Resources on Gender from BRIDGE
BRIDGE has recently produced two new bibliographies listing '20 Key Francophone Resources on Gender' and '20 Key Gender Websites in French'.

The Gender and Disaster Sourcebook- What is the link between gender equality and disaster risk? What lessons have been learned in the field and through scientific study? How can this knowledge be applied in practice to reduce risk and respond equitably to disaster events? The Gender and Disaster Sourcebook is a one-stop user-friendly electronic guide to help answer these questions. The outcome of a year-long project to consolidate and organize English-language materials in the field, the Sourcebook is a work in progress to which you can contribute to.

Gender and Food Security-FAO has taken up the challenge of gathering of gender-specific data and statistics in the field of food and agriculture.This new website has over 60 pages of information and is available in English, French and Spanish. The material is divided into nine categories: agriculture; division of labour; environment; forestry; nutrition; fisheries; rural economics; population; and education, extension and communication.The site also contains a database with more than 200 bibliographic references, informational graphics, dynamic maps with gender-specific statistics, photographs, details about projects and articles.

Gender Training Packages: Canada Nepal Gender in Organisations Project- The objectives of these four gender training packages, and the included complementary training guide are to creat an understanding of gender roles and relations, to develop participant's ability to think about stereotyping, oppression and gender relations, to create mutual trust and safety among participants in discussing sensitive issues around gender relations and to encourage participants to reflect upon their own lives and organisations and to recognise relationships of inequality that affect them. The packages and guide can be downloaded in either English or Nepali for free.

The CGIAR Systemwide Program on Participatory Research and Gender Analysis (PRGA) develops and promotes methods and organizational approaches for gender-sensitive participatory research on plant breeding and on management of crops and natural resources.

Gender and Rural Development--The World Bank: The Gender and Rural Development Group at the World Bank is a community of practice bringing together specialists in many fields to promote systematic integration of gender concerns in the World Bank's rural activities. The Group provides a forum for the exchange of experience and information on issues such as gender analysis, policy formulation, project design, and implementation.

Gender in practice: A Toolkit for the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation (SDC) and partners:  For SDC, gender issues start from the inside.  This comprehensive step-by-step toolkit for incorporating gender in development projects also includes their own strategy, policy and experience in mainstreaming gender at SDC.

The GMS Toolkit: An Integrated Resource to Implement the Gender Management Series: From the Commonwealth Secretariat, this modular toolkit is part of their Gender Management Systems (GMS)--a network of structures, mechanisms and processes to mainstream gender in government policies, plans and programs.  "Gender mainstreaming is a broad-based partnership with technical and managerial dimensions, as well as political and socio-cultural aspects."  The GMS toolkit and publications are available online.

Interaction's Gender Audit CD: Developed by the Commission on the Advancement of Women (CAW) in its work with InterAction member agencies, the Gender Audit is designed to build the capacity of international development and humanitarian assistance organizations to systematically integrate gender equality through their field programs, organizational stuctures and processes.  The CD features a cutting-edge analytical framework, examples from a real development organization, effective Gender Audit facilitation skills, video and audio presentations and ready-to-use templates for all phases of the Gender Audit process.  The CD is available for purchase.

Socio-Economic and Gender Analysis Program (SEAGA): From FAO, this package offers three inter-related toolkits, each designed for mainstreaming gender issues at adifferent level of development planning: the Field-Level Handbook for those working directly with communities; the Intermediate-Level Handbook desgined for those working with institutions; and the Macro-Level Handbook designed to facilitate mainstreaming of gender issues in programs and policies.  A series of technical guidelines for integrating the SEAGA approach into such specific topits as HIV/AIDS, emergencies and irrigation is also offered.  By following the 'publications' links from the SEAGA homepage, you can access the handbooks in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish.

genderIT.org: This Spanish-English website on gender and information and communication technologies is of interest to women's organizations and policymakers.

The Feminization of Agriculture? Economic Restructuring in Latin America: Rural women's participation in the agricultural labor market in Latin America has increased.  This UNRISD publication analyses the role of gender-segmented labor markets in increasing the demand for female labor and women's increased participation in wage labor for female empowerment.  The report is also available in French and Spanish.

The Gender Initiative of the Mountain Partnership views gender as a cross-cutting concern and works to ensure that gender equity is mainstreamed in mountain development policy and action.  At this website, you will find an online library as well as project reports and case studies.  The site is also accessible in French and Spanish.

Beijing Betrayed--Women Worldwide Report that Governments Have Failed to Turn the Platform into Action: This 2005 publication is the fifth, and latest, monitoring report by The Women's Environment and Development Organisation (WEDO) assessing progress by governemnts in implementing the commitments they made at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women (FWCW) held in 1995 at Beijing, China.  The report's executive summary is available in Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Taking Action: Achieving Gender Equality and Empowering Women: According to the UN Millennium Project, there are many practical steps that can be taken to reduce gender inequalities that hinder the potential to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods. This 2005 report covers strengthening opportunities, increasing access, investing in infrastructure, guaranteeing rights, eliminating inequality in employment, increasing women's representation in government and reducing violence against girls and women.

Gender Equality: Striving for Justice in an Unequal World: a UN Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) report released at 'Beijing+10' stating that there is "much to celebrate" but also "much at risk" in the quest for gender equality, a decade after the World Conference on Women.  Although notable gains have been achieved in political participation, education and labor force participation, women continue to face limits on income, authority and power.  According to the report, "Despite women's greater prominence in political life, they are, in many cases, yet to translate their visibility into leadership positions and influence over the decision-making process."

Maximizing Conservation in Protected Areas: Guidelines for Gender Consideration: Women’s and men’s relationships with the environment in protected areas (PAs) and their buffer zones, in the context of their respective gender roles, are crucial for the very survival of these natural habitats. This IUCN brief provides information on how a gender-equitable perspective benefits conservation initiatives in protected areas.  The brief describes steps necessary in undertaking a gender analysis and gives examples of gender-sensitive indicators in PAs.

Women's Empowerment: Measuring the Global Gender Gap: "Countries that do not capitalize on the full potential of one half of their socieites are misallocating their human resources and undermining their competititve potential."  Officially launched on 16th May 2005, this report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) is reported as the first of its kind: it ranks countries according to the magnitude of their gender gap, measuring the extent to which women have achieved equality with men based on economic participation; economic opportunity; political empowerment; health and well-being; and educational attainment.  The study benchmarks the gender gap, ranking countries according the the level of advancement of their female population.

UNDP's Gender Mainstreaming Tools: According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), "governments and other actors should promote an active and visible policy of mainstreaming a gender perspective in all policies and programmes, so that, before decisions are taken, an analysis is made of the effects on women and men, respectively." UNDP offers a rich range of customised tools to help development planners make this happen.

Millennium Development Goals: National Reports, A Look Through a Gender Lens: This UNDP publication, reviews a selection of published MDG reports and assesses the extent to which gender concerns and perspectives have been mainstreamed into discussions of various MDGs in 13 countries around the world. 

UN Millennium Project Task Force Reports carry detailed analyses and recommendations by the various Task Forces, including reports from the Task Force on Gender Equality.

Siyanda is an online database of gender and development materials.  It is also an interactive space where gender practitioners can share ideas, experiences and resources.

Gender Evaluation Methodology for Internet and ICTs (GEM): This gem of a site offers the free GEM Tool, a downloadable guide for a gender analysis of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in promoting social change.  You can also join the GEM practitioners' network.

The Eldis Gender Resource Guide comprehensively covers diverse aspects of gender and development around the world.

Women's Learning Partnership for Rights, Development and Peace (WLP) has  a Global Directory of Women Leaders. It is designed to be used as a resource and networking tools, the directory features biographical and professional proifles on women activtists, policy-makers, scholars, and NGO leaders from the Global South who have devoted their lives to supporting the advancement and empowerment of women. 

ABC Rural Online - Rural Links:  A collection of links to other sites relating to rural issues. Included are links on environment and land care, research and development, livestock, fishing and aquaculture and women in agriculture.          

Asian Development Bank's Gender and Development Site:  This is ADB's link to information on gender and development in Asia.  You can download the Gender Networks News newsletter and country briefing papers on women from several countries as well as review articles on gender and development.   

Women's Alliance for Development: Visit this site if you are interested in problems of women in Bulgaria and in the region, legislative changes concerning women and their children. African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town (AGI): AGI's mission is to build intellectual capacity and establish an African resource dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of intellectuals, researchers, policy-makers and practitioners committed to attaining gender equity. Toward this goal, this international institute works to develop a theoretical and practical understanding of gender and its importance in the process of social transformation in Africa and to facilitate linkages between intellectuals, researchers, policy-makers and practitioners working towards the attainment of gender equity in Africa.

Cisco's Gender Best Practices: Success stories, news, statistics, resources and tools are summarized for each region of the world, including country cases. Special emphasis on women and information technology.

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) is dedicated to promoting social and economic development with women's full participation. ICRW generates quality empirical information and technical assistance on women's productive and reproductive roles, their status in the family, their leadership in society, and their management of environmental resources. ICRW advocates with governments and multilateral agencies, convenes experts in formal and informal forums, and engages in an active publications and information program to advance women's rights and opportunities. ICRW was founded in 1976 and focuses principally on women in developing and transition countries.

International Labour Organization's Gender Equality Tool Web Site: On 8 March 2002, International Women's Day, ILO marked the occasion by launching a website on gender equality. The Gender Equality Tool, a participatory website managed by the ILO Bureau for Gender Equality, is designed to promote information exchange and enhance knowledge on gender-related issues. The website is in English, French and Spanish.

National Organization for Men Against Sexism (NOMAS), USA: NOMAS is an activist organization of men and women supporting positive changes for men. They advocate a perspective that is pro-feminist, gay affirmative, anti-racist, and committed to justice on a broad range of social issues including class, age, religion, and physical abilities. They affirm that working to make the ideals of equality substantive is the finest expression of what it means to be men.

The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) promotes women's empowerment and gender equality. UNIFEM works to ensure the participation of women in all levels of development planning and practice, and acts as a catalyst within the UN system, supporting efforts that link the needs and concerns of women to all critical issues on the national, regional and global agendas.
