In 2009, G&D will organise two rounds of the Women's Leadership and Management Course. The course is offered to all women with management and leadership responsibility working with the CGIAR and its partners, including National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and others. This course is facilitated by a highly skilled group of trainers from the Training Resources Group, Inc (TRG).

Venue: Los Banos, Philippines - hosted by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)
Cost: Approximately $ 4,000 for tuition and all course materials. Travel, accomodation and meals paid separately.

Description
This course is designed to reinforce the skills needed to build leadership and managerial effectiveness of women scientists and professionals who work in the Future Harvest Centers and other development organizations. Gender and its implications are woven throughout the course, but there is also focus on specific skills areas, including: sustaining team performance, managing conflict, and building alliances to achieve research and business results. Nearly 300 CGIAR women have attended this highly valued course thus far. It is open also to women CG collaborators, including national agricultural research institutes (NARIs), donors and partner organizations. This seven-day course is hosted by a CGIAR center in a different region each year, and facilitated by Training Resources Group, Inc (TRG).
Eligible Participants
All women managers and scientists working for the CGIAR, both national and international, are eligible pending approval and financial support of their centers. Women CGIAR board members and female managers and senior scientists from our partner institutions, including donors and NARIs, are also eligible.
Course Objectives
At the end of this learning event, partcipants will be able to:
- use information gained from skills and style inventories to strengthen their leadership and managerial effectiveness
- use essential communication skills i.e., feedback and facilitation, to enhance their leadership effectiveness
- build and sustain effective team performance
- constructively manage interpersonal conflict
- develop strategies to influence and build alliances
- use an increased awareness and understanding of gender implications in their personal and professional development
- increasingly draw upon their network of colleagues for personal and professional support, guidance and assistance
- and apply course skills, knowledge and tools to real work challenges.
The Advanced Women's Leadership Course will be offered in 2010.
