In 2008, G&D will again organize two rounds of the women's leadership and management course. The first course will take place from 15-21 June and will be hosted by ICRISAT, India . It is being offered to all women with management and leadership responsibility working with the CGIAR and its partners, including NARs, IFAD, FAO and others.
The second course will be hosted by The WorldFish Center in Malaysia from 12-18 October.
DescriptionThis course is designed to reinforce the skills needed to build leadership and managerial effectiveness of women scientists and professionals who work in the Future Harvest Centers and other development organizations. Gender and its implications are woven throughout the course, but there is also focus on specific skills areas, including: sustaining team performance, managing conflict, and building alliances to achieve research and business results. Nearly 300 CGIAR women have attended this highly valued course thus far. It is open also to women CG collaborators, including national agricultural research institutes (NARIs), donors and partner organizations. This seven-day course is hosted by a Future Harvest Center in a different region each year, and facilitated by Training Resources Group, Inc (TRG).
Eligible Participants
All women managers and scientists working for the CGIAR, both national and international, are eligible pending approval and financial support of their centers. Women CGIAR board members and female managers and senior scientists from our partner institutions, including donors and NARIs, are also eligible.
Estimated cost
Approximately US$3,500 for tuition and all course materials. Travels, accommodation and meals are paid separately.

- Increases women's own awareness and understanding of gender implications in their professional development.
- May increase loyalty and reduce turnover of high-potential female staff, if enriched job opportunities and career paths are open to them following training.
- Raises awareness among all staff of the diversity of possible effective leadership and management styles, regardless of gender.
- Strengthens the network of women professionals working in the CGIAR, facilitating better information exchange, professional support, and possibly guidance and assistance when needed.
The Advanced women's leadership course will be held from 13-19 April 2008 at the Indian Ocean Beach Club, Mombasa Kenya.
